Odors around the Countywide Recycling & Disposal Facility have noticeably increased during the last month because landfill workers have been digging into waste to contain an underground fire, environmental regulators said Friday.

A high-ranking Ohio Environmental Protection Agency regulator says he lost his job overseeing Countywide landfill after he determined that “reckless and negligent decisions” by the agency’s Twinsburg office were the primary cause of that landfill’s underground fire.
